NCHC is a relatively new free or low-cost health insurance program for children through age 18 who are at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. Children must be uninsured and must be categorically ineligible for Medicaid, Medicare, or other federal government sponsored health insurance to be eligible for NCHC.

Many of the families who receive food stamps have family members who have jobs, but their income is not sufficient to provide for their nutritional needs. Over 2 million food assistance dollars for Stanly County recipients are spent in local grocery stores. Food assistance is 100% federally funded.
