Young Entrepreneurs to Inspire Students to Create Their Own Jobs
National tour comes to Monroe, North Carolina to help youth navigate the shaky job market
On September 24, 2010 Centralina Workforce Development Board will bring the Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour to Monroe, North Carolina to inspire youth and young adults to create their own path during one of the worst economic downturns in 80 years. The Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour – the first ever collegiate entrepreneur tour – includes keynotes, exhibits, workshops, and question-and-answer sessions with young entrepreneurs. Students will brainstorm with business professionals and meet like-minded students through networking events.
The event is committed to helping both students and members of the community succeed in the changing economy, and both are invited to take part in the day’s events, which begin at 9:30 am and end at 1:30 pm and will be held at South Piedmont Community College’s Conference Center. Centralina Workforce Development Board is locally sponsoring the event.
The Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour: Dream Big! is presented in partnership with the Free Enterprise Campaign with additional support from Inc. Magazine. Founded by award-winning entrepreneurs Michael Simmons and Sheena Lindahl when they were just 25-years-old, the tour is comprised of many of America’s top young entrepreneurs who've made, earned, or sold a company for millions and/or made a huge impact before the age of 30! The vision of the tour is for all of America’s college students to graduate with an entrepreneurial mindset.
This event will provide inspiration and practical advice. Both emerging entrepreneurs and students of all disciplines are invited to attend to learn how they can apply the entrepreneurial mindset to their lives regardless of career choice.
The Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour has held over 150 events throughout the country and has attracted more than 600 people at tour events. The organization has received the Innovation Award from the National Association of Development Organizations and the Program of the Year award from Northern Michigan University. Lindahl and Simmons have both received numerous business awards: Lindahl was named by Business Week as one of the country's top 25 entrepreneurs under 25 and Simmons received entrepreneur of the year awards from the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, Fleet, and the National Coalition for Empowering Youth Entrepreneurship.
