May 01, 2017
The year 2017 has started off great for the"Centralina Workforce Development Board"and this was very clear at the Board meeting held on Tuesday,April 11,2017 at"Rowan-Cabarrus Community College NC Research Campus in Kannapolis." The Centralina Workforce Development Board began its Board meeting with a Mission Moment presentation from"Asia Wilson,Centralina WDB Communications Specialist. " The originally planned mission moment presenter,Bill Adams, was not able to attend so Ms. Wilson offered a summary of achievement of"his achievements. Bill Adams,a resident of Lincoln County who utilized"Centralina Workforce Services"services and achieved success starting out as a Dislocated Worker and eventually worked his way up to a Production Manager with"Spantek Expanded Metal"in Lincolnton." After getting hired as the Production Manager,Centralina Workforce Services also assisted with his company"s employment needs. "
The success didn"t stop there. Typically, each Board meeting begins with only one regional success story (an Adult,Dislocated Worker,Employer,or Young Adult success). "However, this meeting was a little different. "The Board had not one "Mission Moment" but three. "Two Centralina NEXGEN customers from the"Resource Development Center"in Stanly County - Tenchi Moua"and"Keyairrah Price"- talked about their success in the young adult program and how their lives have changed dramatically within the past few months."" Moua recently completed his Nurse"s Aide I training at"Stanly Community College"and will be taking his state certification test soon. "Due to assistance received from Centralina NEXGEN Services,he has been hired at"Hope Medical Associates"assisting in their new patient records data system. "Moua stated that he intends to continue his education in the medical field and eventually specialize in Physical Therapy. "Price also utilized the WIOA NEXGEN services and has gone from being homeless to being able to provide a stable home for herself. "Price now manages two jobs which provides her the means to get out of poverty and into meaningful and a sustainable career. "Both NEXGEN customers thanked the Board and the staff at the Resource Development Center in Stanly County for guiding and providing resources during their journeys. "
Centralina WDB Board member"Suzanne Hearn, presented a proposal for a pilot project linking Title II WIOA Adult Education funding with serving the needs of local employers. "Hearn stated that there are 18 literacy councils and 58 community colleges serving 71,000 participants that are reading below a sixth-grade level. "The proposed project is set to merge an Integrated English Language Instruction within a construction program. "Wayne Bros Inc. (Cabarrus County) is in full support of the project. "The project will offer a cloud based learning experience for participants as well as on-site instruction with a focus on civics and IELCE. "At the end of the presentation, the proposed project received the Board’s approval. "
Kenneth McCoy,Project Director for Centralina Workforce Services"and"Ronne Grantham,Regional Operations Director – NC Commerce- Division of Workforce Solutions"presented "The Candidate Recruiting Puzzle for Businesses – Putting Together the Pieces to Fight the War for Talent". "The main purpose was to discuss the war for talent that employers have. "Ken and Ronne presented the basics of NCWorks outlining the benefits it offers as well as doing a step by step demonstration of how to utilize the services it offers to employers.
